Our Christmas Letter!

First of all, I have never done a “Christmas Letter” before, so this is my first try at it!

Wow! What a year! I decided to start a family blog to keep everyone updated on our new adventures.  So I figured this would be the easiest way to write our Christmas letter!

We moved to California at the end of March and have been adjusting well.  As a family we love to go to the beach only 45 minutes away and we love boogie boarding, including Gavin. Logan is still a bit afraid of the water but at least he will go in. Otherwise he loves to play in the sand and find seashells.  We also like to go up to Riverside to the outdoor movie theater. We have done this a few times and it is just a fun experience for us all.  We have also been exploring museums and water parks around us. There is just so much to do here that we feel a bit overwhelmed at all of our options.  We also love to hang out at Joe and Lynda’s house/ranch. The kids love to go for a mule ride and lay on the hammocks.  Lastly, we are currently renting the house that we are in and we are just starting the process of looking for a house to buy. At this point it looks like we will end up building a new house, as there is plenty of construction going on.

Mike started a new job in September, we were lucky enough to both have the summer off from working so we could spend some time together as a family and get to know our new town!  Mike works for South Pointe Construction and actually as of Monday, December 11th he will be getting a promotion! Way to go Mike!! On the weekends if we are not busy at the beach or at a soccer game, Mike goes to his brother, Joe’s house and helps him with projects.  He also played in a golf tournament and loves to go biking and hiking in the trails behind our house.

As for me, I don’t know where to begin!  What a year filled with so many emotions!  This year was the first time in my life since I was about 16 that I didn’t have a full time job outside of the home.  So I immersed myself into all kinds of things. My number one passion is running! I love to run and I love to race! There are so many races out here I could run one every weekend, however, I do not because they can get expensive! But I have been fortunate enough to run quite a few and it has actually helped me get to know Southern California better. I love running along the ocean or up on the trails in the hills overlooking the many lakes or vineyards around here.  I am also a taxi for Gavin for school and sports. I joined the Mom2Mom group at my church and I just a few weeks ago joined a Bible study group.  Lastly, I just started a part-time job as an office manager at Alive and Well Center for Natural Healing.  So far I love it and I can work from home when I need to!

Gavin just turned 9 on November 27th.  He played U10 soccer this year and his team came in 2nd place. He actually made some good friends on the team and he got to play goalie and he loved it!  He also started two different new schools, when we first moved here we stayed with Mike’s brother Joe so he went to a school close to Joe’s house. But once we started renting a house he changed to a school closer to us.  And the first day of school this fall he made a really good friend named Delilah.  She is such a sweetheart and her mother and I have become good friends.  He also participated in soccer camp, sports camp, swimming lessons and tennis lessons this year. He also started the long process of having braces. I am afraid this process will take a long time since he just doesn’t have a very big mouth. But he seems to be doing really well with them so far. Lastly, he does like to play Minecraft on the Xbox and he likes to read the Boxcar Children and My Weird School books. His favorite foods right now are cheese pizza and cheese quesadillas.

Logan turned 3 right before we moved and boy oh boy, he has such a big personality!  He loves to stay home and just play and he tells me every day that I am his “sweetheart”!  He loves the Disney Cars movies and die cast cars.  He could play with them all day long and even takes them to bed once in a while.  He also likes to go to the park and he seems to make friends wherever we go, including Walmart.  He does like to play with Gavin and he loves to mess with Gavin’s Lego creations when he is at school.  Sometimes I am a referee between the two boys!  Logan’s current favorite foods are pepperoni pizza and peanut butter sandwiches.

Overall we do love the weather and the fact that we don’t have to worry about snow and ice anymore. However, Gavin’s school was closed Friday due to the wild fires in the area. This is something new we have experienced already. Luckily we were not in the evacuation zone for either one of the two that were closest to us. But we did see some dark smoke from our backyard.  Lastly, we hope this letter finds you healthy and well and we do miss our family and friends and everyone is welcome to come and visit us anytime!

With Love,

Mike, Jessica, Gavin and Logan Molstad
